John Francis Rene is Born!

John Francis was born at 7:25 p.m., October 23rd -- exactly his due date! Labour was 2 hours and 58 minutes, quite a difference from Lily, who took 30 hours to make her entrance.... John Francis was weighed at 7 lbs 9 oz.

He was born in water, which made labour a little easier on Jaime. The midwives were excellent -- professional, calm, and extremely tender. Glory to God! I (Fr. Richard) am getting a little better at this coaching business, or so Jaime told me. Not quite a doula, but maybe a doulos-in-training...

As you can see, he likes to keep one eye closed. It must be a bright world out here. His greatest fear at the moment is how big the world is, compared with the confines of the womb. New boundaries to learn...

We arrived at the hospital just before 6:00 p.m. and we were heading home by 10:00 p.m.! Talk about a drive through service! The midwives figured (correctly) that we would be more comfortable at home, and since the delivery was so free of complications, there was no reason to stay. We spent a comfortable night at home. Baby John was quiet all night and is now sleeping with Jaime.

Thank you to all for your prayers and good wishes. Thanks to God for His blesssings that He showers upon the undeserving. How magnified are Your works, O Lord. In wisdom have You made them all! Posted by Picasa

Wow! Glory to God! Congratulations to you. Welcome, John Francis, to the world... (not a bad second name, by the way) Is that a family name or is it for St. Francis of Assisi?
