I was looking for a picture of the four of us, but couldn't find one. Did find this cute one of the kids though! Posted by Picasa

Lily has a job

Lily is all excited to have a job! It's too cute. She's going to be part of Holt Renfrew's Spring Launch. I'm a little nervous about it but hope that it'll be fun. I wish the weather was a bit nicer, that'd help. Tomorrow she gets to go try on clothes, then Thursday she'll be on a morning news show (we have to be there at 7am, yuck) and then in a fashion show on Saturday.

Snowing in Calgary

This is the most snow we've seen all winter! It's coming down hard and fast and has been since I woke (and before since there was snow on the ground then too). Posted by Picasa

The Going to Bed Book

As a family this is our newest favourite book!

The sun has set not long ago
Now everybody goes below
to take a bath in one big tub with soap all over - SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB!
They hand their towels on the wall
and find pajamas big and small.
With some on top and some beneath, they brush and brush and brush their teeth.
And when the moon is on the rise, they all go up
to exercise!
And down once more, but not so fast, they're on their way to bed at last.
The day is done. They say goodnight, and somebody turns off the light.
The moon is high. The sea is deep. They rock,
and rock,
and rock
to sleep.

We all love it, a Noah's ark bedtime story that's never too long to read.

Ramblings

Last night as I was waiting for my husband to finish some marking I read the preface to Lewis Caroll's Sylvie and Bruno, a book I had never even heard of before buying Caroll's complete works this week. I came across a beautfil edition of Lewis Caroll's Complete Works at Indigo on the Bargain table and couldn't resist (even though I already had Alice in Wonderland in hardbound). I was blown away by this preface. He covers everything from introducing the story, to writing technique, to books he'd like to see written, to memorizing Scripture, to the transity of life and living each moment as if it's your last. I kept wanting to share passages with Fr. Richard but he wouldn't let me interrupt him!
All I've even read of Caroll's was Alice in Wonderland but I'm looking forward to reading more, especially the prefaces. I didn't actually make it beyond the preface last night. It's too big a book to read in bed so it was back to Dante's Inferno for bedtime. I can't actually believe that I can read about hell and then right to sleep but there it is....

Glory to God!

A new mission is born! The East Kootney Orthodox Fellowship in Cranbrook, BC was blessed as a Mission Station a month ago and yesterday they became St. Aidan’s Orthodox Mission. May it prosper and be a beacon of light to all.

Troparion
O holy Bishop Aidan, Apostle of the North and light of the Celtic Church,
glorious in humility, noble in poverty, zealous monk and loving missionary, Intercede for us sinners that Christ our God may have mercy on our souls.

Dad emerges. Posted by Picasa

Stuck!

The bathroom door knob has been finicky for quite a while - you have to turn it just so to open the door. But last night Mom got stuck in the bathroom, fortunately she got out after a minute or two of fiddling. Today however...Dad got stuck in there and there was no coming out! After we laughed for a while, took the door knob off, we finally had to go outside and pass tools in to him to take the door off the jam. Anyway, it provided the afternoon's entertainment. Posted by Picasa

LEARNING TO FLY

I have lost my sight, smell, hearing taste and touch:
How should I use them for your closer contact?

If I must fly, do not make me a swallow
or I may try to flutter into the sun; I do not
want to be broken by even that insubstantial
body, much less by the burden of everything
that rises and falls back, unable to resist itself;
but rather, I want to remember that I am born
from earth. And if I must fly, make me a feather;
then I will float back to you on some small wind
and come to rest in your deepest valley where
I cannot lift myself away from your immensity.
